Symposium in Memory of Jeanette Erdmann (March 7th, 2024)

We held a symposium to honor the memory of our esteemed colleague, Jeanette Erdmann, who served as the head of our Institute for Cardiogenetics and a Professor at DZHK.

Jeanette, an extraordinary scientist, mentor, and friend, tragically passed away in July 2023 due to an unexpected accident at her home, as reported in the following obituaries:

The event began with a welcome from our institute, followed by remarks from the interim president of the University of Lübeck, Prof. Gabriele Gillessen-Kaesbach, who expressed gratitude to Prof. Erdmann for her contributions to science, the University of Lübeck, and all of us.

We were deeply honored to have Jeanette’s PhD supervisor, Prof. Markus Nöthen, her mentor, Prof. Heribert Schunkert, and her long-time collaborator and friend, Sir Nilesh Samani, along with professors from the University of Lübeck and DZHK professors, who shared their stories of meeting Jeanette for the first time and recalled personal and professional milestones in her life. They highlighted her scientific achievements during the symposium.

The Institute of Cardiogenetics was represented by Redouane, Tobias, and myself, who gave three joint talks on behalf of the institute, commemorating Jeanette's memory and presenting two decades of exemplary friendship, mentorship, and leadership.

Please find below the program from the event with nearly 120 registered participants.

Thank you, Jeanette, for being a part of our team for the last two decades. We will miss you and you will be remembered forever.
