The 9th Young DZHK Retreat

Deep in the woods, covered by trees, along the Templiner See, the 9th Young DZHK Retreat took place in Potsdam this year (13th Sept-15th Sept, 2023). In total, 97 young, talented and motivated scientists from seven partner sites of the DZHK in Germany, participated at the retreat this year, exchanging their science. Wonderful talks, rapid fire presentations, and astonishing poster presentations were carried out.

Two keynote lectures were the cherries on top of the cake for the retreat. One was from The Netherlands by Monika Gladka, an assistant professor at the Medical Center Amsterdam, who walked us through her academic journey and elaborated on developing our careers. The second one was from the University Hospital Heidelberg by a research group leader, Carolin Lerchenmüller who talked about gender equity in academia particularly in cardiovascular research.

There were great networking events also organized by the amazing team such as rowing, archery and yoga where the youth enjoyed to its fullest. Looking forward to next year’s retreat in Frankfurt.
