The number of positively
tested patients with the coronavirus in Lübeck is still comparatively low (2
confirmed cases (as of 9.3.2020)).
But the strongly increasing number of cases in Germany
(over 1137 (as of 9.3.2020)) in a few days and the frightening developments in other European
countries, especially Italy, and not to forget the dramatic situation in China,
South Korea or Iran, leads to the fact that we also feel the effects of this
epidemic at the ICG.
On the one hand, university events will be postponed in the next few weeks, planned congress
trips will be cancelled and home office will be very generously recommended. In addition, we are more strict in our recommendation to stay at home in case of
colds or similar symptoms. Hygiene measures are reminded more intensively
and hopefully implemented.
However, all in all, these are not serious impairments, but
urgently needed measures to slow down the spread of SARS-CoV-2.
As a risk patient I have
prescribed something like quarantine for myself - means home office for the
next weeks (hopefully not too long), no events and as few personal contacts as
possible.
I depend on the support of the whole ICG team. But I am sure that we
will master this very new and frightening situation.

PS. What also worries me a lot is the spreading of "fake news" in connection with SARS-CoV-2, but also other topics. I find it more and more difficult to accept that so many people say goodbye to common sense and believe in crazy theories. It is depressing and frightening.
