4th Annual retreat of the ICG

This year our 4th ICG retreat took place in Parin at the Gutshaus Hotelan inspiring place in the nature of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with its nice surrounding, a small lake and an outdoor swimming pool.

As every year we were very lucky with the weather, as if its ordered every year for our retreat.

After days of rain, the sun just came out on time to the first day of our retreat on Thursday. We all enjoyed the sun and used the time outside to share our scientific data and had lively discussions during coffee break or Lunch/Dinner.

Our ICG members (from student to Postdoc) presented 20 talks from the different bioinformatics and experimental projects. It is always impressive to see the high-qulity of presentations.

Marlon said: “The retreat was something very special for me this year. The beautiful accommodation, in the middle of nature, helped me to really switch off. So it was easy to concentrate on the great presentations and group work. Many new impressions and nice conversations I could take with me this year”.

At the end we celebrated together with Matthias his successful PhD-thesis defense. His thesis was on the identification of genetic risk factors predisposing to the inflammatory oral disease periodontitis.

All in all it was a very successful retreat.

We thank Jeanette for making this retreat happening every year. Many thanks also to Marina and Nadine for choosing this location and the organization.

The decision about next years´s retreat will be made next week. Stay tuned.

Beatrice, Marlon, Zouhair
