It was such a pleasure for me to attend the “1st DZHK Conference on Translational Medicine” in Berlin and even more so, as a representative of our institute with a nominated poster entitled "The Functional Role of the CAD-Risk Gene ADAMTS-7 in Drosophila melanogaster".
At the conference, Prof. Heribert Schunkert gave a nice talk about the genetics of myocardial infarction, which include the history about well-established coronary artery disease (CAD) genes such as the LDL receptor, Gucy1A3 and ADAMTS-7. Moreover, this year an additional 30 variants were genome-wide significant and therefore associated with CAD.
Furthermore I found it very interesting to learn that the treatment with Aspirin® for patients affected with CAD is highly much dependent on their genotype (so for e.g. being homozygous for the non-risk allele increases the risk treating the patients with Aspirin®. - So therapeutic treatment is still a large and open field!
Overall it was a very interesting & informative conference!
