This year, the 4th DZHK-Retreat took place in Bad Aibling, Bavaria, which is known by its thermic and health resorts.
After a warm welcome from Prof. Hasenfuß and a talk about the state of affairs given by Prof. Eschenhagen, the meeting started with a Keynote lecture given by Prof. Malik from Cytokinetics, Inc., San Franscisco, who demonstrated, based on his own experience, how translation of a theoretical concept from basic research into clinic can work.
The rest of the meeting combined further keynote lectures and highly interesting talks in different areas dealing with various cardiac disorders and their underlying pathomechanisms.

Not only science but also social activities were part of the program.
I took part in cycling activities. I enjoyed nearly 3 hours cycling discovering the landscape and the beautiful farmhouses with their wooden balconies when passing by the small villages around Bad Aibling.
Altogether it was very nice to be there, meet experts in the field or just exchange ideas and thoughts with colleagues. It was also an opportunity to establish new contacts and collaborations.
The next DZHK-Retreat will take place, not so far from us, at the Baltic Sea in Warnemünde in September 2017.
