Happy birthday to the Human Genome Project

Incredibly, it is already 25 years ago that the Human Genome Project was announced: in 1990, the initial planning stage was completed with the publication of a joint research plan, "Understanding Our Genetic Inheritance: The Human Genome Project, The First Five Years, FY 1991-1995."
This initial research plan set out specific goals for the first five years. The original document can be found here.

On June 26, 2000, the HGP announced, in a briefing at the White House, that it assembled a working draft of the sequence of the human genome. Remarks made by Bill Clinton, Tony Blair (via satellite), Francis Collins, and Craig Venter.

A more general comment about the HGP published in a German news paper can be found here
