Zebrafish platform - a TV star is born

A few weeks ago a journalist from the "Bayrische Rundfunk" (BR), one of the several German television transmitters, contacted us about making a short report for 'Faszination Wissen' a weekly science magazine broadcasted every Monday at 10:00 pm.
The plan was to show and explain our recent experimental studies to understand the genetics of coronary artery disease (CAD) and myocardial infarction (MI).

We thought it would be a great opportunity to present our newly established zebrafish platform.
This platform is a joint project between the IIEG and
the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Marine Biotechnology (EMB) headed by Charli Kruse. Special thanks goes to Philip Ciba, a Postdoc at the EMB, who helps Krishan a lot to set this platform up. With this platform we plan to functionally characterize some of the established CAD and MI risk gene in zebrafish. Zebrafishes have only recently been decribed as a model for atherosclerosis.

On Friday the shooting started at 9:30 am at the EMB and ended at 5:00 pm in the labs of the IIEG (many thanks to Maria, Jaafar and Annett for preparing DNA on such a short notice ;-)).

Briefing
.... and here we go.
Scripted reality.

Some shots were taken from inside the water tanks.

Overall, it was a long day, but we all felt that it was worth the time. We had a lot of fun during the shootings and interviews. Many thanks to Boris Geiger and the film crew from Hamburg.

The 5-minutes report will be broadcasted on February 22nd at 10:00 pm and we look very much forward to watch this show.
